old-man

Yup. February 22nd, 1970. I know, everyone has birthdays. I’ve had a bunch of them. But this one is REALLY bugging me. I mean, keeping me up at night bugging me. I still feel 25. Actually, I still feel 15. I just can’t get over the fact that I’m 40 now. That’s an adult. A grownup. ME! I’M a grownup?! Oh, if people only knew. LOL. I can no longer wear my baseball caps backwards. Should the word “Dude” be removed from my vocabulary? I have two kids and a wife that rely on me. I thought by 40 I’d have this life we live figured out. I don’t. I’m winging it. With that said, here’s my list of top 10 things I’ve learned in my 40 years.

10. If you don’t know how to fix something, hire someone to do it correctly. It will be MUCH cheaper in the long run.

9. Not everybody is going to like you. That’s ok. Just go with it.

8. Family should be more important than work.

7.  It’s just money. The people in your life are worth WAY more than any number in your bank account.

6. You can choose sides if you want to, but in the end, a politician is a politician.

5. Sometimes the journey is more fun than the destination.

4. Books are cool.

3. Jesus is cool.

2. Asking for help when you need it is ok.

1. I owe more to my parents than I could ever repay.

Waaaaay back in 1989 Val and I dated. I was writing and recording horrible music back then. I managed to get a little snippet of her on tape, and wrote a song around that one line. We parted ways back then as she went off to school and I came, well, HERE. Fast forward 20 years. We are now married. Over the holiday vacation I FOUND the master tape with that song. I actually had to go out and buy some old recording equipment because I had no way to listen to the tape with out it. Here it is…warts and all. Enjoy. Listen. Tolerate. Don’t break your speakers.

Had a great couple of weeks off. Now back to reality. That reality includes losing some pounds. SOOOO many people make the resolution to lose weight around the new year. I’ve never done that before but my wife thru down the challenge: let’s see who can lose 20 pounds first. Now, I might be a chubby guy now, but I used to look like this…

Buff Billy 3

Now days, it’s more like this….

billy is fat

As a (former) fitness junkie I know what how to lose the weight. It all comes down to motivation at this point. Dragging my (enormous) butt out of bed an hour earlier. Planning ahead for lunch and snacks. My “Fat Elvis” period is over. I need to get down to a healthy weight for the sake of my family. So it’s on. My wife Val thinks she can drop 20 quicker than me?! Wait for it……………………………………………….HAHAHAHAHAHA! BRING IT ON WOMEN!!!

Have YOU lost weight and kept it off’? How did you do it?!

P.S. Friends really shouldn’t let friends see them in speedos.

light

I’ve heard about “S.A.D.” and not sure if it’s for real. Both my wife and I get bummed out during the winter and doing some research we found out about the special lights you can buy to help combat the effects of this disorder. Do the lights really make a difference????
